- COACHING TEAMS – Creating magic with the teams
Guest Author PK Narayanan CEO Coach www.pknarayanan.com Having ‘Individual Excellence’ and ‘Collective Brilliance’ at the same time amongst the top management team is a dream of every business Leader. The exciting fact is that it’s possible! We often see Business Unit heads / the top management team members / the functional heads in organisations display Individual Excellence (excellence of their respective teams included); yet the ‘Collective Brilliance’, working seamlessly as a team, largely appear to be missing. At this level, the experiences show 2+2 adding to less than 4, though the business objective is to take it above . How a business could accomplish Individual Excellence and Collective Brilliance at the same time? How would that impact their business performance and profits? Coaching Teams provides a solution. This could be used effectively to take businesses to the next level. Team Coaching comes in different types, shapes and shades; For a context described above, a team coaching intervention inter-laced with individual coaching could bring about magic! Team Coaching generally involves multiple Coaching sessions with the team (one-to-many) that are structured to address specific needs of the business. Carefully chosen business themes could be accentuated by weaving them across the sessions. Team Coaching could be structured to help align Individual, Team and Organisational goals for each team member resulting in increased levels of engagement, increased levels of awareness, creating transformational impact on the teams. Team Coaching works as a reflective, action-oriented, co-creative, collaborative process to bring about positive outcomes for businesses. It’s time the businesses start benefiting from it. (PK helps business leaders grow their business faster and position their business for long-term success. For more: www.pknarayanan.com )
- Why leadership is about IQ, EQ and SQ? #IQ2EQ2SQ
Is #IQ2EQ2SQ the journey of a leader? A leader in the corporate, business, professional, NGO, even politics. A leader at all levels, a team-lead, or first-time manager to the CEO. Facing a challenge of not only the lifetime, but perhaps of the century, arising out of #covid19, #lockdown. We have moved beyond the cliched #VUCA now! Every leader is surely facing the challenge of a lifetime within himself/herself. And how s/he manages this crisis will determine the legacy . Not just at work, but at home and in the community. For we are all in this together. There is no choice. Hence, physical distancing is a must-do. And, not social distancing. What got you here, will not take you ‘ there ‘ , (courtesy @MarshalGoldsmith). Now we do not know where we are headed! What is the goal? Destination? Without knowing where we are headed, how do we check, ‘if we are on track?’ #I2We2He: Whatever leadership role we are playing, basic IQ has got us here. What would take us forward, as a leader, would be how we bring in empathy into our leadership. It is not about I/me/mine anymore. Not about my ego, or selfishness. If we can move beyond I and We, to ‘He’… then we are truly blessed. Only a fraction of the world population is blessed to move into that consciousness, even with leadership positions. ‘ He ‘, as per your definition. God. Universe. Guru. HiC or Higher Consciousness, as we use in one of the healing methodologies. Is it a marathon or a sprint? Do we even have a choice? # Hero’sJourney , as Joseph Campbell may add. Operating at full potential, or in a self-actualized state, going by Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Maximizing potential, personal and professional potential, as per ICF definition of coaching. ‘All beings, knowingly or unknowingly, is on a spiritual pilgrimage’, Master says. What would it take to shift my consciousness #I2We2He so that I operate at the confluence of #IQ2EQ2SQ? Coaching can help. - Listen. It is telling you something – Madhu Kanna, Executive Coach PCC, ICF
I was heading the international business of a growing organization, traveling more than 200 days a year, opening new markets, and new businesses. I was on a high. Making good money and achieving more than what I or the management desired. Early March 2018, I was drawing up the business plan for the next financial year, I was feeling a bit drained. As you know, for every business in India, the first of April everything is reset to Zero. All achievements & accomplishments are nulled. This thought disturbed me. I was feeling restless and many questions popped up in my head – How long are you going to do it? – What is your personal plan for the next year & for the years ahead? – What is the purpose of your purpose of life? – How long would you like to do what you are doing? – Are you being happy or are you thinking that you are happy? – What are you giving back to this world? – What are you giving to your family? – What you desire to be? I went back to preparing the sales budget and never revisited those questions. I was afraid of answering them, I did not know the answers, I was not ready to answer, or I was too sucked in my work. I do not know, I never answered them. A few days later, as I was driving home, these thoughts haunted me again, this time even stronger. For the first time, I listened. I was determined to find the answers. The next morning, I spoke about this to my best buddy. He said, “you should meet a Coach”. I asked, “what Coach?”, he replied, “meet this person, you should”. I desperately needed answers, I called the Coach and scheduled a meeting with her a few days later, 10 am, at a coffee shop. After a brief introduction, I saw myself opening to this person. I was like a dam that opened after heavy rains. I gushed. I spoke for almost two hours. As we were drawing to closure, she asked “Madhu, how are you feeling “. I said I feel empty, she smiled. She added, Can I make a suggestion, I said go ahead, she said: “you may like to visit the website of International Coaching Federation (ICF) and see if you would like to take up coaching “. I bid her adieu. I discovered I was being coached and was in a coaching session, much after she left. That evening, I reflected. I discovered that I drew my energies from and being with people, I liked to do something that was creative, I felt fulfilled when I made a change in someone’s life. I had answered all the questions that haunted me. I visited the webpage of ICF, I knew that moment that I am meant to be a coach. Today, I am a full time certified coach. I am not chasing targets nor planes. I am serene!! https://www.linkedin.com/in/coachwithmadhu/
- Tips to Choose ICF Coach Training Program
What Exactly Is ICF? Coaching as a concept is not new to man. We have seen the significance of a coach-like figure since time immemorial. Arjuna had Lord Krishna who, while partnering with him on his journey, revealed to Arjuna about the importance of righteous action. The Apostles had Christ who walked with them and gave them a new direction in life. Prophet Muhammad did the same with the Ummah. In the 21st century, we have ICF certified coaches! With the passage of time, coaching started to get associated with sports and athletics. Subsequently, people with specialised knowledge offered their expertise to whoever sought them. With the growing popularity of coaching, it was imperative that the coaching community needed a formal structure that would lay down standards to ensure the highest level of ethical practise. This is extremely important as coaches are dealing with the lives of their clients so they must function at the highest level of efficiency. This led to the founding of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). ICF introduces a system that coaches must adhere to in all their coaching endeavours. This is the secret of success- People fail. Systems don’t . As an ICF member, you will enjoy instant credibility by identifying yourself as part of the world’s largest community of professionally trained coaches. You will have access to local and global networking opportunities, cutting-edge business development and marketing education, and a variety of research and resources to help you reach your coaching goals. Ready to join the global community? Tips for Selecting the Right Coach Training Program: Now that you have decided that certification and credentialing are in your best interest, the next milestone is choosing the right coach training institute. The following 3 tips will help you in your selection process- 1. Know the Content of the ICF Coach Training Program- The fact that the program must be approved by the certifying organization is the first barometer. If this criterion is not fulfilled, the other criteria are of no use. An approved ACSTH program by the International Coaching Federation, the gold standard in coaching is one such example of an approved program. The approved content of ICF lays stress (80%) on ICF coaching competencies . You also need to read in between the lines when discussing with the coach training institute to ascertain how far the institute is ICF framework compliant. For example, if a coach feels it is okay to give advice, this is in violation of the ICF code of ethics. ‘To serve the customer’, or ‘to fulfill customer expectations’ are mere excuses bereft of any merit. The interests of the client are best served when the coach sticks to the process, the system. This is because the underlying assumption is that the coachee/ client is complete so he/she does not need any external or magical advice from the all-knowing expert! Sounds surprising & counter intuitive – isn’t it? Well the world of professional ICF coaching is full of pleasant surprises:) 2. Know the Delivery of the ICF Coach Training Program- The delivery of the ICF Coach Training program is another criterion to factor in. One option is to focus on a lot of theory and back it up with a series of webinars. The identifying factor of this method of delivery is that it is built around a lot of ‘gyaan’. Another option is to build the delivery process around Coaching practice. As stated previously, the basic premise of coaching is that the coachee/ client is already complete. Therefore, the aspiring coach is also complete. What s/he needs is only the ICF coaching framework, and a mastery thereof. This is what enables the aspiring coach to develop the science and the art of coaching. The entire journey is one that is internal. The role of books and other external resources are severely limited. 3. Know the Community of ICF Coaches already trained/credentialed- ICF Coaching gives greater emphasis to others than ourselves. #I2We2He (I to We to He). Coaching grants predominance to the community that you are a part of. At Regal Unlimited, we have created a robust 300+ alumni community for continued learning and business collaboration. This alumni body is part of the unique experience at Regal Unlimited. Therefore, we humbly submit that if you have not considered Regal Unlimited for coach training and certification, you may not be considering the best training institute in the category. Community of ICF coaches not only helps in peer and reciprocal coaching, but it also amplifies the Coaching-Quotient of the learners. This community is truly a Regal family! 4. Bonus Tip- Coaching comes to our lives when we are ready! Coaching comes to our lives when we are ready, at all levels, just as the Master manifests when the student is ready. The only difference in both the scenarios is that in the case of coaching, it is not so much about the person, rather, it is the process of coaching. Of course, the Master is also a process! So when someone says,” I am an accidental coach!” , be assured, it is coming from a space of ego that is backed by ignorance. Nothing is a coincidence. Not even taking up the journey of ICF credentialing! Another way of looking at this is that coaching was always within us. We just chose to tap into that part of consciousness for the collective good and not personal wealth alone. We hope these tips will help you in your endeavour to choose a training institute for your coach accreditation journey. However, do not be surprised if the search leads you to us. All roads lead to Regal Unlimited. We will see you soon! You can go through our website for further details on the ICF approved coach training programs . Best wishes for a transformational journey…within yourselves, and the certification, of course.

- Unfolding the women’s leadership presence
“Don’t aim to break the glass ceiling: aim to shatter it” – Matshona Dhliwayo While the world is evolving, when it comes to leadership positions, women are lagging behind. Dr Daniel Amen, author of Unleash the Power of the Female Brain , in his research has discovered that female brains are very active in almost all areas, especially in the prefrontal and limbic cortex. Women have 30 per cent more neurons firing than men do. This enhances strengths such as empathy, intuition, teamwork, and self-control. Though women have all the positive attributes required to be a great leader, why do we still have fewer women leaders? The latest Fortune 500 list revealed that only 37 of the 500 companies ranked this year, were led by women. Women CEOs account for just 7.4 % of fortune 500 companies. According to a McKinsey study, organizations with women holding at least 30% of leadership roles, were 40% more likely to have sustained growth. Research also shows that when women are well represented at the top leadership level, companies are 50 per cent more likely to outperform their peers. Though women have begun to make their claims for leadership, there are many challenges and complexities that prevent many women leaders with qualification, skills, expertise and ambition from achieving their goals and making advancement into senior leadership positions. Women have a lot to offer as a leader, owing to certain qualities, like being focused and clear in their decision-making skills, humility, empathy and such, apart from their qualification. But the internal and external barriers that women leaders have to handle are coming at a great cost. These internal and external challenges faced by women make them opt-out of further advancement to leadership positions and sometimes opt out of the workplace entirely too. Women have to deal with more and different types of stresses than men do and face a different cultural environment. Research shows that women do more childcare and house chores than men. Significantly so much that, those women who are employed full time are often said to be working a ‘double shift.’ Quite often women leaders also encounter stressful interactions and culture at the workplace that makes the challenges severe. Not to mention the gender-bias which not only impedes her professional progress but also morally drains women leaders. An article by Ed Yong , “Everyday Discrimination Literally Raises Women’s Blood Pressure,” reflects a report that confirms how frequent exposure to moments of “disdain, distance and disrespect” affects the health of working women and this, in turn, leaves women leaders feeling exhausted, stressed and burned out. Each and every woman should have the right and power to pursue her dreams, choose what she wants, clarify and realize her career goals, and work intentionally to make it happen. The need of the hour is to address the heightened challenges women are facing. It is essential that the underlying barriers and personal obstacles that usually pull women back from advancement to leadership positions are addressed. Lack of female mentors at the workplace and the difficulty in finding support too add to the distress of the women at work. Women leaders should help, empower and support each other. Don’t just aim to break the glass ceiling, aim to shatter the glass ceilings and also your limitations. Invest in a ‘Regal You’ with our Regal Women Leaders and Coaches Program. The program aims to help women leaders achieve their maximum potential through Coaching, Coach Training and Healing. The program brings forth the ‘Regal You’ helps you leverage the innate leadership qualities (which are intrinsic to women, yes they are) and present yourself as a confident, competent and complete being, thereby building capacity for alignment, direction and commitment. “All women, everywhere, have the same hopes: we want to be self-sufficient and create better lives for ourselves and our loved ones.” Melinda Gates.
- Alibaba IPO – Dinosaur or Phoenix?
Money lending -> Banking -> Fintech -> Alibaba: where am I, here & now? I started my career with the best NBFC in the country. Later was blessed to be part of the team that disrupted retail banking/asset financing as a middle-level leader As CXO established auto finance in another country and took to leadership. Unlike other China-based entities that got state support or merely copy-pasted ideas from the west…. The largest-ever IPO is totally in a new league! - Learning Style – Leadership
What is your learning style? Which of these, or a combination of these? Coaching is about adult learning styles. No specific style is thrust on the coachee/client. In our coaching, we just go with what the coachee prefers, what works for him/her. In our ICF Coach training session last evening, one of the learner-coaches mentioned how he has started reading books again. His learning style had become through audio/video. He is a techie too. Then in a coaching demo with the same learner coach, the topic came to writing !! ✍️ It was an interesting awareness for the coachee that he used to be good at essay writing, elocution, and other competitions during student days. But as an adult, he has moved away from the writing of all types. If nothing else, writing for journaling can be very therapeutic. What good habits have you discarded in your pursuit of professional life? What if your professional success depends on bringing back some of them, and adding new ones, such as #StoryTelling? Storytelling is an important communication/leadership skill. We are the stories we tell ourselves! Write inspiring stories about yourselves, #legacy: LeadershipCoaching I Coach Training I Leader As Coach I Healing at www.regalunlimited.com
- Learning style – Reading Habit
To learn & grow is a deep need within. #Reading habit comes up during our coaching and mentoring sessions. For various reasons, most of us have left behind our love for books. While all of us would like to continue learning, we have also adopted different learning styles over the years. Sometimes we tend to romanticize the diversity too! Sometimes it becomes a belief. For example, ‘I can no longer read books like before’! And s/he is on a coaching or coach training program, “to maximize the personal and professional potential” (ICF definition of coaching). Many of these are relevant to me too. One book I started reading and finished during an international flight was this book, by Anita. A very powerful book on near-death experience and healing. It was just un-put-down-able! Usually, I would sleep during a long flight, watch one movie, and read a bit. That entire flight was just reading. This Facebook update came up for Nov 9, 2015. Some of these FB updates are good reminders of old experiences, that make our lives. This also reminds me I have not ready anything significant in this genre recently. What is your learning style? (Let’s not romanticize) What are you reading now? Have a great week ahead… https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12291050-dying-to-be-me?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=JNb9JWcpIR&rank=1
