Why ICF PCC Certification Matters

For professional coaches, the journey from ACC to ICF PCC certification is not just a progression—it is a transformation.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) sets the global gold standard for coaching. While ACC establishes foundational capability, PCC coaching certification represents depth, mastery, and professional credibility.

Yet, this journey is not about accumulating hours or credentials.

It is about becoming a coach. Then transitioning to Being! Being a coach, and thus coaching from a state of Being. And that goes beyond even ICF CC 2: Embodying a Coaching Mindset. #Doing2Being

What Is ICF PCC Certification?

The ICF PCC certification (Professional Certified Coach) is the second level of credential offered by ICF and signifies:

- Advanced coaching ability, which goes beyond the science and process of coaching to include the art, built on a strong scientific foundation. Historically, all great artists were also skilled in science and maths.

- Strong alignment with ICF Core Competencies, focusing solely on coaching skills without relying on additional methodologies, which coaches often tend to stray into. The ICF framework is comprehensive; there is no need for any other modality to “support” it. When we seek to incorporate other frameworks, it reflects a lack of confidence and conviction.

- Demonstrated coaching presence, partnership, and embodied a coaching mindset.

- At least 500+ coaching hours of practice. Our coaching includes reciprocal peer coaching and work with real clients, not pro bono. We are not yet at a stage where free coaching is appropriate, as it should come from a place of strength and expertise.

Achieving the ICF PCC designation signals to clients and organisations that you adhere to high professional standards. But the real question is: what does it genuinely take to reach this level?

The Reality Check: Most of Us Were Not Coaching

One of the most profound realizations early in any ICF training journey is this: “What I thought was coaching… was not coaching.”

We were:

  • Advising

  • Mentoring

  • Consulting

  • Problem-solving

But not coaching in its purest form.

This awareness is not a setback. It is the beginning of real learning.

The First Stage: Unlearning Before Learning

The journey towards PCC ICF certification starts with unlearning. As experienced professionals, we are conditioned to: Provide answers, Solve problems, Lead from expertise.

Coaching, however, demands the opposite: Curiosity over certainty, Questions over answers, Presence over performance. This shift can be uncomfortable.

Nevertheless, every significant ICF PCC training experience will require this transformation.

The Second Stage: Discovering the Power of Coaching

As you deepen your practice, coaching begins to shift from a process to a state of being

  • Conversations become more fluid.

  • Insights emerge naturally.

  • Clients access their own wisdom.

At this stage, many aspiring ICF PCC coaches feel excited—like discovering a new world. But soon comes grounding. Because coaching is not about occasional breakthroughs; it is about consistent, intentional presence.

The Third Stage: Becoming a Coachpreneur

Coaching is not just a craft; it is also a profession. Every coach eventually assumes one of these roles:

- Independent coach

- Internal (in-house) coach

- Leader applying coaching skills

This is where the business aspect of coaching becomes vital. Without it, coaches face risks such as:

- Dependency on platforms

- Inconsistent client flow

- Limited impact

A robust PCC coaching certification journey must therefore include:

- Practice development

- Positioning and differentiation

- Sustainable client engagement

Because an effective coach must also be a self-sufficient professional.

The Fourth Stage: Moving from Doing to Being

True mastery in an ICF PCC certification journey extends beyond skills and business.

At Regal Unlimited, we define this as the integration of:

Coaching Quotient (CQ) – your coaching capability;

Business Quotient (BQ) – your ability to build a practice;

Spiritual Quotient (SQ) – your awareness and presence. This is where transformation occurs.

If the goal is only PCC ICF certification, many stop at CQ. However, mastery resides at the intersection of all three.

What Differentiates an ICF PCC Coach?

An ICF PCC coach is not defined by hours alone. They demonstrate:

  • deep listening and presence,

  • the ability to partner without agenda,

  • facilitation of sustainable client growth, and

  • comfort with ambiguity and silence.

This level of coaching cannot be achieved through shortcuts. It requires rigorous practice, reflective learning, and ongoing feedback and mentoring.

Why Most PCC Journeys Fall Short

Many ICF PCC training programmes concentrate mainly on:

  • Completing the required practice hours

  • Passing performance evaluations

  • Meeting credentialing criteria

While essential, this is not enough.

Without:

  • Mastery of the framework

  • Depth of self

  • Strong personal brand

  • Inner transformation

The journey remains incomplete.

The Regal Unlimited Approach to PCC Coaching Certification

At Regal Unlimited, the ICF PCC certification journey is crafted for transformation—not merely for gaining credentials. Our approach features:

1. Deep Practice: ‘Mindless practice does not make perfect. Intentional and reflective practice does.’

  • Real coaching conversations—reciprocal peer coaching and genuine paid clients, with no pro bono work at this stage of learning.

  • Rigorous feedback loops to guide you towards mastery.

  • Multiple evaluated recordings, far more than the minimum requirement set by ICF.

2. Mentoring for Mastery: Our programme focuses on 80% of the competency framework, as guided by ICF. We do not rely on any other methodologies to supplement the ICF CC framework.

  • Alignment with ICF Core Competencies

  • Focus on presence and partnership

  • Individualised growth pathways

3. Integration of CQ, BQ, and SQ: Coaching is transformational. If the coach is not willing to undergo the process themselves, how will they support others?

  • Coaching mastery

  • Business sustainability

  • Inner awareness and Being

4. Community Learning: We have built the premier ICF coaching ecosystem for ongoing learning and business collaboration.

  • Peer coaching

  • Reflective dialogues

  • Continuous engagement beyond sessions

This guarantees that each participant develops into a confident, competent ICF PCC coach.
